We all have one of “those” closets, and often times it’s our linen closet. The little closet that holds essentials – but also the place where we put stuff we don’t exactly know what to do with. Have you been thinking about getting your linen closet organized? Here’s our best tips for clearing it out, cleaning it up, and keeping it organized.
Clean it out
Closets and drawers, they’re where the junk hides. It’s not just you, these are everyone’s “trouble” spots. Having junk hidden behind a door makes it all to easy to stash things that you no longer need. By taking every item out of the closet, you’ll be amazed at what you have stored in there! Once it’s all laid out have a “toss, donate, and keep” pile. Really be strict with yourself about that “keep” pile. And only hold onto what you actually use. I’ll be honest, I tend to keep way too many candles. When I finally donated the ones I no longer use, it cleared up SO much space.
Clean it up
With any organizing project we always like to take the opportunity to deep clean the empty space (and if you’re looking for more cleaning tips check out our full guide to Spring cleaning). We also love natural products with Branch Basics being a favorite. Give all the shelves and cabinets a good cleaning for a fresh slate. This is also a good time to add drawer or shelf liners, to protect surfaces, make cleaning easier, or for a fun pop of color. You’ll also want to measure your space at this time, and come up with a game plan for how you’ll organize. Measuring twice will ensure that your product will fit perfectly – if you need to order any. We’re all for using the bins or baskets that you may already have at home. But in a lot of cases you may need to order some product, as what you have on hand isn’t the right size, or you don’t have extras containers.
Let’s get organized
Here comes the fun part: the organizing! You should have an organizing plan at this point, and your product on hand. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your organizing install goes, since you’ve already done the hard work! Put you items back in their corresponding bins, and label (if needed accordingly. With this particular project, this closet serves as a linen closet + wrapping supply holder. I used an over the door shoe organizer for all my gift wrapping supplies, and it couldn’t work better. The same goes for these affordable collapsible cloth square bins that hold towels, sheet, housewarming gifts, and of course candles 😉
Whatever you keep in your closet, categorizing the items into specific groupings will make all the difference in keeping you organized in the long run. Let us know if you have any questions about getting your linen closet organized!
