Aarg laundry… it’s one of those chores that nobody likes to do, but it has to get done. Want to know one thing that can make this mundane task a teeny bit more enjoyable? Having a laundry space that you like being in + one that is super functional. We hope this posts gives your some inspiration, and please let us know if you have any questions about how to organize your laundry room.
The laundry room we want to show you today, is Patti’s. Patti is an amazing mama to 3 adorable kiddos + the creator of the blog Patticake Wagner. When the Wagner family designed a kitchen addition, it meant their 1920’s galley kitchen transitioned into a laundry room. The laundry room is also the main pass through to many parts of the home. With company coming in for the holidays it was finally time to get it organized for good!
Any space that’s used for something other than its original intent, usually has a few challenges to overcome. Enter a bit of creative thinking + the help of some of our favorite products from The Container Store, and we were able to come up with a great plan. The Wagner family now has the organized laundry room that they deserve.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the main areas that we addressed, what we changed, and how it all came together:
How to organize laundry room glass cabinets
Don’t get us wrong glass cabinetry is gorgeous, but when filled with cleaning bottles instead of decorative objects they can look cluttered. In order to beautify this valuable storage space, we brought in baskets to group like items together, and then labeled accordingly.
Counter and drawer organization
The counters and drawers in this laundry room had become a catch all for the family. The laundry space is linked to their mudroom, and it’s the main area that they enter and exist the home. The first step was removing all the contents, and then getting rid of what the family no longer needed. To finish, we added drawer dividers to keep the contents tidy and accessible.
The laundry hall closet
The Wagner’s have a fabulous hall closet, but it needed vertical storage to make full use of it’s functionality. By adding in an Elfa shelf and rod system, suddenly the closet had twice the storage space! When contemplating how to organize your laundry room, think about adding a mounted utility rack so mops and brooms aren’t taking up floor space.
The command center
You all know how much we love a good command center (check out our comprehensive guide here), and since the oldest of the three Wagner children has started Kindergarten, there was a big need for a system for all the papers coming and going from school. To get a handle on the paper, we created a basket system: using just two bins. One now serves as an “in” and the other is the “out” basket for everyday projects + communications.
The final verdict? The Wagner family loves their new laundry space, and the added functionality. It’s so much easier to put everything away, and a cinch to keep the space looking great.
Best wishes for organizing your laundry room!
